Estimating the Probability of Youth Unemployment An Extended Essay for a BSocSc in Economics and Statistics

چکیده
This paper investigates the personal, regional, and family background characteristics of the unemployed youth using data from the General Household Survey. The main result noted is the different labour market experiences of males and females which may reflect the traditional genderspecific division of entry-level jobs. The variables which are found to be significant for both sexes include no qualifications, parental unemployment, and rented accommodation. Factor analysis and correlation analysis further highlight the importance of ‘good’ family background for a successful labour market entrance
